Alex....Maybe Ocarina of Time was good and sold alot, but it still didnt change videogaming in many ways, it was just a RPG, like SuperMario3(which is good too) but the rest of your games, are just the games you perfer, not what the majority of people. That would be what this thread is about.

well, they are... RPG means that you follow a story with certain characters, that you are restricted to choose... SuperMario is a RPG because you HAVE to play as mario, or luigi and you have to go about and save the princess peach through a series of levels to accomplish that. However, the game is not that strict upon the path, you can choose to skip somelevels, so it would be an OpenRPG or ORPG, same with OOT..there is a world that you can transverse around in, you can backtrack, buy stuff, and discover items, so it IS a RPG, cause you go through the story, you dont choose to do random crap and create buildings, or just shoot Zelda with a bow.

You got it wrong, and RPG stands for: Role Playing Game Anway, in an RPG a person levels up, gains experience, and has a party member (most of the time).

Role Playing Games, ITS IN THE FREAKING NAME
you role play...you dont choose to do what you want, you dont HAVE to earn exp, or level up. ITS ROLE PLAY!!!! you cant choose what you want like a FPS, or a Srategy game, But you follow the pre-selected path. And it can be off-line too, final fantasy is offline(cept eleven).
ROLE PLAYING GAME!!!
definitions:
wikipedia-
A CRPG plot is usually crafted in an intricate fashion into a highly dramatic, strictly-directed and linear construct, relying on the viewer to experience most of its twists and turns at predetermined specific times and certain ways. In this sense, a CRPG's execution is quite akin to that of a movie or a novel, using scripted sequences.
While simple forms of roleplaying exist in traditional children's games such as "cops and robbers", "cowboys and Indians" and "playing house", role-playing games add a level of sophistication and persistence to this basic idea. Instead, participants in a roleplaying game will generate specific characters and an ongoing plot. A consistent system of rules and a more or less realistic campaign setting in games aids suspension of disbelief. The level of realism in games ranges from just enough internal consistency to set up a believable story or credible challenge to full-blown simulations of real-world processes.
urban dictionary:
(4) Kingdom Hearts and Legend of Zelda are also RPG's.
dictionary.com:
RPG role-playing game.
they just have to role play, but most incorperate exp as an advanced way to escalate fun

So you're saying that it's in the name? Hmmmm.. role playing..
Tetris - I take the role of falling blocks (Puzzle Game) Galaga - I take the role of a space ship (Shooting/Arcade-ish Game) Super Mario 64 - I take the role of Mario (Platforming Game)
Shall I continue?
